Our creative mind only sees the future in fashion and our eyes are always opened sourcing and collecting ideas prior to design and development possibilities.

Why Egungun? Mainly because of an experience of a parade of egungun on the street when founder and designer of TáWA was at that particular place in time, 2016 when she and her family visited Nigeria.
That's how her love and obsession started with Egungun. She then fell in love with the details, colours of the festival and was eager to learn more. Then she use it has an aspiration to inspire her degree collection.
The research definitely took her back to her childhood, but brought her close to her Africa culture, art, history and her root as a Yoruba woman.
The Nigeria's annual Egungun festival is a centuries old Yoruba tradition, and one of the most colourful cultural celebrations in West and Central Africa.
The word "Egungun" is sometimes translated literally as "bone" or "skeleton." This is probably the result of a misunderstanding of the correct tone, since Yoruba is a tonal language. When the word is pronounced with the correct tone, it means "masqueraders."
It is believed to help develop trade and commerce and generally bonds the people of Yorubaland together regardless of their religious beliefs
Find your elegance is all about restoring creativity and being your AUTHENTIC self. The collection is influenced by s/s 2019-20 Egungun collection. Reason is because during the 1st lockdown when we were on sure what was happening and as we witnessed the world change beyond recognition as this invisible virus destroyed everything we know and love.
During all this time of confusion and uncertainty, designer and creative director decided to create "Find Your ELEGANCE" collection. Which represents adding to value to what we have, old and making it new elegant and fun. When the whole world was on a stand still, the pandemic got TáWA revisit, redesign and recreate just to show hope is not lost and we can still look and feel amazing.
As many also experienced, Covid has flipped everything upside down. For the designer it meant going from side hustle and full to brim creative experiments with amazing materials and working on getting the collection ready.
There is one thing in all of this that stayed the same. Her vision, which she continued to use creatively as a force for positive change for HER.
She is a Little all over the Place that's for sure. But the good News is that when She Loved. SHE Loved big and if she loved you. You KNew SHe Loved You. You Never Had to Wonder. Someone who chooses to acknowledge & appreciate herself for the choices today!
She's bold, She's confident, She's elegant, She's got self-love. She is YOU.... You are HER!

In exploring this phenomenon, I took inspiration from Vessel, a structure and visitor attraction built as part of the Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project in Manhattan, New York, a towering edifice whose sculptural strength is matched by its innate beauty. I also looked to my own heritage through the prism of the "Body,Vessel,Clay" exhibition which explores how black women have disrupted, questioned and reimagined ceramics during the last 70 years. A reimagining which saw the worlds of indigenous Nigerian and British Studio Pottery came together to galvanise a new wave of creativity.
These inspirations have manifested themselves in creations resplendent with ruffles which represent the ripples caused by a vessel navigating its way through still and sometimes troubled waters. A vessel whose journey is not just one of discovery, but also of self-discovery. This theme comes further to life through the intricate beading which adorns many of the pieces. Beading being the earthly expression of the messages that African ancestral spirits carry to us from the Creator. The use of white beads symbolizing humility, a quality that has been instrumental in my own journey of self-discovery and I imagine many others. "Vessel: Strength of a Woman" combines drama with elegance, features our signature exquisite drapery and is defined by the gold-standard haute couture tailoring which is synonymous with TáWA.
As with our previous collections, it premiered at House of Ikons (HOI) fashion week in February which runs concurrently with London Fashion Week. Attracting our ever-increasing community of loyal customers, fashion industry insiders, international media and fashionistas; it also offered attendees the opportunity to shop the brand.
This latest collection takes as its message the resilience of the empowered woman who endures whatever obstacles she faces with compassion, dignity and empathy. These are qualities which resonate with the TáWAwoman. Qualities which are informed by her culture, her history, her strength and her hope.
